FG to Engage Youths in Constructing 8,800 New Primary Health Facilities

The federal government has announced intentions to hire young Nigerians to assist in overseeing the development of 8,800 new healthcare facilities spread throughout the nation’s 774 local government units.

The Presidential Health Fellows Program, which was recently approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will conduct a mass recruitment exercise for young Nigerians in all local government areas, according to Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, who made this announcement yesterday in Abuja.

On or before January 27, 2025, Pate encouraged all eligible young Nigerians to submit their filled-out application forms at www.healthfellows.ng.

To choose who would be involved, the minister stated that a multi-screening process at the state level will be conducted in each local government region of the federation.

According to the minister, the chosen fellows will be accountability officers who supervise the construction of 8,800 new primary health facilities across the country over the course of the ensuing years, making sure that each facility operates with operational excellence and fiduciary integrity within their respective areas of responsibility.

Aiming to improve primary healthcare delivery across the country, the National Health Fellows Program has officially launched and invited potential candidates to start applying. Its goal is to revolutionize Nigeria’s public health sector and cultivate the next generation of healthcare leaders.

This esteemed program will bring together a cohort of up-and-coming professionals from a variety of professions, including social sciences, information technology, and health and health-related fields, according to a release. In addition to receiving extensive training, leadership opportunities, and mentorship, the chosen fellows will be exposed to industry best practices in Nigeria’s healthcare industry.

The foundation of this initiative is the boundless potential, intelligence, and patriotism of our youth, providing them with a once-in-a-lifetime chance to develop their leadership skills and develop significant, impacting healthcare solutions. Pate clarified, “We urge young Nigerians to emerge as potent change agents and assume their proper role in determining the direction of our country’s health sector.

Developing a group of highly qualified and driven health executives who can spearhead significant change and innovation in our healthcare system is the fellowship’s main goal, as the statement demonstrated.

The eligibility requirements for the initiative were also described in a recently released announcement.

“Applicants must be between the ages of 25 and 35, have relevant experience and skills, and hold a bachelor’s degree in the social sciences, IT, or health-related fields.”

Nonetheless, interested parties are urged to apply by January 27, 2025, via the official website at www.healthfellows.ng. According to the statement, there are several screening phases in the selection process, such as eligibility verification and interviews.
