Fubara Shrugs Off Criticism: ‘What Matters Most Is the Respect I’ve Earned’

Sim Fubara, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, has denied the accusations that he is not a politician and questioned whether aspiring to be a politician is a prerequisite for admission.
Fubara reportedly stated this while implying that he would make amends with Nyesom Wike, his predecessor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Remember how the relationship between Wike and Fubara soured after the governor took office in 2023?
Before President Bola Tinubu proclaimed a six-month state of emergency due to a full security scenario, the two sides’ disagreement had an impact on the state’s governing bodies, notably the House of Assembly.
According to reports, Fubara visited with Tinubu and Wike to try to mend fences during his suspension.

In a widely shared video on the internet, Fubara addressed a group of his fans and stated that there is no reason why he and his “Oga,” who is a reference to Wike, cannot live in harmony.
Despite the claims that he is not a politician, Fubara said that the respect he has earned is more significant than the one that is being imposed.
“There is no reason why my Oga and I can’t have peace; we want peace so that Rivers can move on,” he stated.
“I want to make an appeal to everyone. They claimed that I’m not a politician, but I’m not sure what the prerequisites are to become one. I know that the most important thing in life is respect that I have earned, not that is being imposed upon me.
“I want to gain your respect by serving you rather than controlling you. If I make a mistake, please let me know.
“I want to reassure you once more that I am fully behind you, and I need everyone’s support as well as our support of one another.”
