Future of PDP Rests with NEC – Bode George Breaks Silence on Anyanwu

Bode George, a PDP chieftain and member of the party’s board of trustees, has denied claims that Nyesom Wike’s authority inside the opposition party is reflected in the appointment of Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary.
The decision to recognize Anyanwu was made in the party’s best interest and was not influenced by any one person, George insisted in an interview with Punch on Wednesday.
“Absolutely not!” George responded when asked if the action indicated the PDP had given up to Wike.

“Let’s meet at the NEC,” he added. You won’t know who is winning or losing until the NEC meets.

George emphasized that the 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which is set for June 30, 2025, will settle all unresolved matters pertaining to the role of the National Secretary.
“Any decision made at NEC is final,” he declared. For reasons that are best known within the party, Anyanwu’s return as PDP National Secretary carries a lot of implications. In my capacity as an elder, I am appealing to all parties, particularly the irate ones. They’d better stop. We shall resolve our internal issues when we get together.

The former PDP Deputy National Chairman emphasized that no one individual can take control of the PDP organization, subtly criticizing the current All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Our party is not like the APC, which is owned by an individual,” he stated. We are pleading with everyone to consider peace. An individual cannot outweigh this party, but we will find a solution.

“There is a saying in Yoruba land that when you prostrate for a dwarf, you will still be taller than the dwarf when you get up,” George continued, using a Yoruba proverb to support his argument.

Noting that the PDP needs to reorient itself in advance of the general elections in 2027, George asked all party members to cease viewing developments as a win-or-lose scenario.

“There is nothing permanent in this life,” he continued. Let’s not assign a winner or a loser to this occurrence (Anyanwu’s comeback).

“In 2027, Nigerians anticipate improved governance, and we must prepare to address the populace.”
