Tragedy Strikes as Bayelsa University Student Drowns After Betting

According to reports, a second-year Chemical Engineering student of the Federal University, Otuoke, which is situated in Bayelsa State’s Ogbia Local Government Area, drowned in Yenagoa’s Ikoli Creek River.
After placing a wager with multiple people that he could swim across the Ikoli River, the student drowned on Sunday, according to reports that were gathered.
Although the student’s identity is still unknown, news reporters were able to verify the horrific event after local divers found his body in the ocean.

People who lived nearby told Daily Trust that the man drowned and never came up again while trying to swim across the river. A 200-level Chemical Engineering student and his classmates gambled on swimming across the river on Sunday morning.

For the stake, they individually raised N300. He dipped while swimming and wasn’t discovered right away until his lifeless body was found on Monday night, according to a source.

Mercy Ekott, the university’s public relations officer, told reporters about the unfortunate incident on Tuesday.

She was not authorized to speak about it, therefore she was unable to provide any other details.

“Yes, it is true, but I am not authorized to speak on the matter, so I cannot provide further details,” she stated.

However, DSP Musa Muhammad, the police spokesperson for Bayelsa State, informed reporters that the command had not yet received any information regarding the incident but that they will get in touch with the Divisional Police Officer in Ogbia to get further information and get back to them.
