Global Leadership Deficit Alarming – Prof. Nebo Urges Self-Change for Global Impact

In order to spark the desire for change among the governed, Professor Chinedu Nebo, the first Vice Chancellor of the University of the Niger in Umunya, Anambra State, has urged leaders from all walks of life to rid themselves of transgressions.

“No matter how painful the truth is, transformational leaders don’t run from it,” he argues. They don’t have myopia. Even when it is unpopular or expensive, they act morally.

In honor of Emeritus Professor Steven Timipia Odi-Owei, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council of Anchor University, Lagos, on his 80th birthday, Professor Nebo, the former Minister of Power, gave this speech at the 5th edition of the Distinguished Personality Lecture.

As the moral compass appears to be spinning aimlessly in many areas of leadership, the guest lecturer claimed in his paper, “Transformational and Impactful Leadership in a Failing World,” that it is paradoxical that the planet groans under the weight of human neglect despite unprecedented technological advancements.

Professor Nebo presented a pessimistic view of the world, showing it to be failing in many areas of human endeavor.

“Our world is failing in many ways,” he remarked. Political selfishness, corruption, inequality, and general incompetence cause economies to collapse.

The weight of misinformation and mistrust burdens democracies. The world doesn’t need more dominance, control, or flimsy charisma right now. It requires leaders who are prepared to undergo personal transformation and who inspire others to do the same.

In misery and pain. We complain about Nigeria and the intentional and inadvertent harm that our own leaders are causing to us. However, Nigeria cannot be saved or cured by lamentation alone. Therefore, it is time for us to take matters into our own hands and become change agents in our own small ways, with the hope that the cumulative effect will result in the emancipation and transformation of our country. Nigeria is too young to pass away, and it is our responsibility as her children to keep her alive.

“To expect the same forces that are holding us hostage to liberate us would only amount to suicidal wishful thinking,” he said, adding that waiting for the government to save the nation would be futile given that it is under siege by powerful forces that have essentially enslaved its citizens. He urged the populace to think strategically and plan ahead.

He asserts that the world needs leaders, healers, builders, torchbearers, and catalysts instead of more spectators.

Emeritus Professor Steven Timipia Odi-Owei, who was celebrating his 80th birthday, praised the university’s administration for the honor.

He urged leaders in all areas of human endeavors to be just by prioritizing the people, and he praised Prof. Nebo, the guest lecturer, for his succinct delivery of the distinguished personality lecture.

Professor Samuel Bandele had earlier congratulated the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council on his 80th birthday, stating that the fifth disguised personality lecture in his honor went beyond a simple ceremony and was a management-planned event aimed at influencing society through academic interaction and the sharing of knowledge.

He conveyed his belief that the talk would leave a lasting impression on the audience.

All of our Senate members, staff, and at least 400 students and other members of the public attended the talk. I aspire to think that the demands of transformational and impactful leadership will make today’s messages even more enduring in people’s hearts. The talk, in my opinion, will greatly benefit all of our employees as well as Senate members.

This kind of lecture serves the fundamental primary goal of demonstrating that universities have a responsibility to spread knowledge and to take advantage of every chance to ensure that society is educated—not just about what is going on, but also about learning, eliminating ignorance, and then expanding knowledge.

Prof. Bandele, who praised Almighty God, stated, “I would like to be remembered for perhaps the synopsis of what we had today,” when asked what he would like to be remembered for. the influence that Anchor University has benefited from my efforts. being a faith-based university, not only in the academic realm but also in the spiritual realm. I want to be known for everything I’ve done, for how God has used my team and myself to change this place’s landscape and restore its spiritual purity.

He argued, “I want to be known as a vice-chancellor who transformed an environment known as a faith-based university while riding a bicycle of spiritual integrity.”
