Goodluck Jonathan Addresses Alleged Move to Establish One-Party State

Concerning the possible risks of establishing a one-party state, former President Goodluck Jonathan has advised any nation contemplating such a system to proceed with meticulous preparation, vision, and well-defined goals.
The comments were reportedly delivered by Jonathan on Wednesday in Abuja during a memorial speech and day of tribute to the late elder statesman Edwin Clark.
During his speech, Jonathan cautioned that the country would suffer if a one-party state were to be imposed by political ploys intended just to further individual goals.

He emphasized that such initiatives could impede national advancement and cause instability.

Jonathan urged the creation of a yearly memorial lecture in honor of Pa Edwin Clark in his homage to him. He urged the late elder statesman’s vision of a united, just, and wealthy Nigeria to be carried on by Clark’s family.
Jonathan emphasized that Clark’s work was based on advancing justice and national unity, ideals that ought to be upheld in his honor.

The 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, Peter Obi, lamented that the sacrifices made by historical figures like Pa Edwin Clark had not paid off and voiced unhappiness with the country’s current situation.

Obi cited the ongoing rural poverty, growing insecurity, and increased living expenses as proof that previous presidents’ efforts and sacrifices had not been fully realised.

He emphasized that if the country did not deal with these urgent problems, the efforts of these heroes might be for nothing.

The event’s chairman, former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon, emphasized the value of maintaining national unity in order to secure Nigeria’s advancement.

He emphasized that the country could not advance until the interests of the nation were prioritized over those of individuals. The determination to preserve a powerful and united Nigeria was reflected in Gowon’s remarks.
