Gospel Singer Pleads Not Guilty in Court Over Alleged Killing of ‘Corper’ in Abuja

Despite having previously admitted to the act, GOSPEL singer Timilehin Ajayi has entered a not guilty plea to the murder accusation against Salome Adaidu, a 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member stationed in Abuja.
On January 17, 32-year-old Ajayi was arraigned in the Nasarawa State High Court on accusations of culpable homicide, which carries a death sentence under Section 221 of the Penal Code.
In order to await additional hearings, the judge ordered Ajayi to be remanded to the Lafia Correctional Facility.
While carrying Adaidu’s severed head in a polythene bag, Ajayi was taken into custody on January 12 in New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area.
According to reports, police investigations showed that he killed the woman at his home and then dismembered her body into over fifty parts, purportedly out of jealously over supposed adultery.
During his parade at the headquarters of the Nasarawa State Police Command, Ajayi admitted to the murder, saying he killed Adaidu while she was visiting because he was jealous and suspected of being unfaithful.

Admittedly, he dismembered her body with a knife and machete and put the pieces in plastic bags.
We don’t have each other all the time, therefore I killed her. This is not what I had intended. On that day, it did indeed occur. She was cheating, and I didn’t have the strategy in mind.
But when he appeared in court on Monday, January 27, Ajayi entered a not guilty plea, which infuriated the public and led to demands for justice from advocacy organizations and Adaidu’s family.
