Gov Nwifuru Suspends Three Commissioners Over Absenteeism, Strips Privileges

Three commissioners were suspended by Francis Nwifuru, the governor of Ebonyi, for their unapproved absence from Monday’s State Executive Council meeting.
At a briefing on the results of the executive council meeting on Tuesday, Jude Okpor, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, reportedly revealed the most recent development.
Ikeuwa Omebe (Rural Development), Victor Chukwu (Environment), and Solomon Azi (Grants and Donor Agencies) are the Commissioners that are impacted.

The Governor issued a warning against public servants’ absence and slack attitude toward their work, Okpor said, adding that the Commissioners were suspended for a month.
He added that throughout the suspension period, Nwifuru ordered that the suspended commissioners be deprived of all office-related benefits.
Nwifuru cautioned all contractors working on government projects in the State to accelerate their efforts in accordance with their contractual obligations, the Commissioner for Information added.
In order to enforce compliance, he claimed, the government would not think twice about using all available legal options.
According to other sources, the sad events in Amegu Nkalaha, Ishielu Local Government Area, were caused by Francis Nwifuru, the governor of Ebonyi State, failing to take action after warning of a possible attack by suspected Fulani herders, according to the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council.
On Sunday early, the attackers reportedly broke into the neighborhood and destroyed a large number of buildings, turning them to ashes.
According to a statement from the group’s national president, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the youth wing warned the governor four days prior to the February 2 attack, which resulted in multiple fatalities and property destruction.
Concerned about the growing number of Fulani herdsmen in the state, the council warned that if immediate action is not taken, further bloodshed may break out.
