Gunmen Attack Benue Links Bus, Kill Driver and Kidnap Passengers

On Thursday night, gunmen took control of a fully loaded Benue Links bus in Ikobi, Otukpo Local Government Area, Benue State, killing the driver and kidnapping every passenger.
According to the Daily Post, the attackers ambushed the car along the highway, shot the driver dead, and then led the occupants into the wilderness. However, it has been revealed that the kidnappers left a toddler behind.
Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident, despite alerting security agencies. There are reports that efforts are being made to find the victims.

Mike Magaji, the head of the Ochetoha K’Idoma youth wing, responded to the attack by expressing his displeasure with what he called the government’s lack of action in tackling the state’s insecurity.

It is tragic that despite the government’s silence, our people still live in constant fear. How many more people have to die before something is done about it? Magaji said.

Additionally, he said that Governor Hyacinth Alia’s recent visit to Otukpo lacked any significant steps to address the situation.

It was a letdown when the governor visited Otukpo. Our citizens didn’t expect ambiguous guarantees; they expected leadership. To stop these attacks, we need a well-defined plan.

“The government needs to take responsibility for its duties. While those in positions of authority turn a blind eye, we cannot keep mourning our people every day,” he continued.

Catherine Anene, the public relations officer for the Benue Police, said she had not yet verified the occurrence when this report was filed.
