IGP Warns Osun LG Crisis Perpetrators: ‘You Will Face the Full Weight of the Law’

In response to the political crisis that broke out in the early hours of Monday, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has directed the tactical squad to bring calm back to Osun State.
Hooliganism, lawlessness, and anarchy of any kind will not be tolerated, the IGP declared, adding that anyone responsible for the chaos during the crisis would face consequences.
In a statement released on Monday, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the force spokesperson, issued the warning.

“In reaction to the continuous violence in Osun State, the Nigeria Police Force has strongly denounced the incidents that have disturbed peace and safety in the state and pledged to bring the offenders to justice,” the statement said.Due to the disturbance of the peace caused by these violent acts, property was destroyed and sadly, innocent lives were lost.

By directing the deployment of more tactical teams to Osun State, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has taken bold steps to strengthen security and reestablish peace and order.

Recognizing that violence harms people’ well-being and erodes the democratic process, the police underline their commitment to finding and apprehending those responsible for these crimes and holding them accountable.

“Those who pose a threat to Osun State’s peace and stability are strongly warned by the IGP, which would not put up with any acts of lawlessness, hooliganism, or chaos in the state.

“Those who engage in these criminal activities will be apprehended and made to bear the repercussions of their needless, unfortunate actions.” As things return to normal, citizens must maintain their composure.

We thus implore Osun indigenous people, leaders, and interested parties to avoid violence and carry on with their lawful activities.

In order to preserve the rule of law and democratic ideals, political actors must recognize and follow the judiciary’s decisions, which continue to be the last arbitrator of all election disputes.

It is advised that citizens carry on with their legal affairs. The force reaffirms its will to crack down on any violent actors who aim to disrupt peace and order in any region of the nation.

“Efforts will be made to guarantee a safe environment for all residents of Osun, and the situation there will be closely monitored.”
