Minimum Wage: JUSUN Gives FG 7-Day Ultimatum, Threatens Strike

The Federal Government must implement the new national minimum wage and other benefits within seven days, according to the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), which has threatened to go on indefinite strike if its demands are not satisfied.
According to reports, a communiqué issued on Wednesday after an emergency meeting at the JUSUN Secretariat in Abuja imposed this deadline.
Thursday, February 13, 2025, marks the start of the seven-day countdown, which ends on February 19, 2025.

JUSUN has issued a warning that an indefinite strike will start on February 20, 2025, if the Federal Government does not respond to their requests within this time frame.
The union is demanding that the new ₦77,000 national minimum wage and other benefits be fully implemented for judicial staff.

While other public sector employees have already begun receiving the updated wage, JUSUN has been at odds with the Federal Government over the failure to implement the new minimum wage for judicial staff.

The workers had previously given the government a 21-day ultimatum to address their concerns, but nothing was done in that period.

“The meeting’s main focus was on the 21-day ultimatum that was given to all heads of federal courts, FCT courts, and judicial bodies.

That the following resolution was reached following lengthy discussions. That in accordance with the pertinent rules regulating labor disputes and the urgent intervention of Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, an extra seven (7) days’ notice is now granted for the complete execution of the subject matter.

That Thursday, February 13, 2025, marks the start of the seven (7) days, which will conclude on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

“The union will not be able to ensure industrial harmony if our demands are not implemented within the allotted period. As a result, the strike will start on Thursday, February 20, 2025, and last indefinitely,” the announcement said.

To avoid interfering with judicial operations across the country, JUSUN has called on the Federal Government to take immediate action.
