Illbliss Raises Alarm: ‘We’re In A Dangerous Part Of History, Government Now Matching Our Energy’

Nigeria is in a very hazardous period of its history, according to Nigerian rapper Tobechukwu Melvin Ejiofor, better known by his stage name Illbliss.
During a recent interview on the Real Shareholders podcast, the artist voiced concerns about the government’s propaganda apparatus, wanton corruption, economic hardship, and growing insecurity.
He described how his politically conscious song, “Country,” was removed off the air due to its criticism of the government.

He bemoaned how the administration is now stifling criticism and spreading lies through internet propaganda tools.

“In 2020, I had this record called ‘Country,'” he stated. The radio was disconnected. I put out other conscientious songs like “A Different Kind Of War” and “National Cake” prior to “Country.” However, OAPs frequently claim that they are not allowed to perform certain songs due to the possibility of fines. Occasionally, you release a record and you receive a hundred or more tweets asking, “Why are you always trying to make a mockery of the country?” The nation is not as horrible as it seems. Perhaps it’s a computerized reaction to something, but you simply know it’s a manufactured pushback. I am aware that propaganda is no longer limited to traditional media. To claim that the government is doing well, propagandists can have a podcast. And you’ll see members of our generation sitting with their faces on display and saying, “But this government has created jobs.” It’s obvious!

That’s where we are. As the government matches our energy, we are in a very risky period in our history. We assumed we had social media, but now that so much occurs on these platforms, you start to question whether the government has started to support ideas of distraction or if it has become much more sophisticated. Just take a peek about us.
