BREAKING: Governor Adeleke Extends Curfew Amid Rising Community Clashes

On Saturday, tensions between the Ifon and Ilobu villages intensified, extending to the Erin Osun neighborhood.
As a result, Governor Ademola Adeleke has placed the impacted communities under a 24-hour curfew.
A 12-hour curfew was first imposed by the governor in response to the violence, which forced many people of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun to leave their homes. Some of the displaced people, especially those from the north, were seen leaving the region in busses on Saturday.

It was stated that Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke’s spokeswoman, described the steps taken to stop the situation from getting worse.
The statement said that Governor Ademola Adeleke has intensified efforts to defuse the Ifon-Ilobu conflict by enforcing a 24-hour curfew, assembling a joint security task force, and mediating a peace agreement between the two warring towns.

Ilobu and Ifon residents were comforted by Governor Adeleke, who declared, “I am committed to securing their lives and properties.” I have provided the state president with an update on the events. We are keeping an eye on things.

In order to create a false impression of widespread insecurity, opposition elements were distributing outdated footage of previous communal violence in some areas of Osun State, the statement also addressed the propagation of misleading information.

The statement went on to say, “Although the ongoing conflict is unfortunate and everyone is working to put an end to the violence, we would like to alert the public to the actions of fake news merchants who are re-posting old videos to undermine the state government.”

The governor stressed that the public should reject the circulating footage of violence in other Osun towns and villages because they are fake news.
