It’s About the Lives of Our People’ – SGF Akume Discusses Conflict with Gov Alia

Claims of conflict with Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia have been denied by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume.
Rivalries between Akume and Alia over control of the state political system have reportedly been documented. It was reported that the face-off began soon after the governor took office two years ago.
According to reports, Tor Tiv, the supreme leader of the Tiv country, stepped in to resolve the purported conflict between Akume and Alia in 2024.
However, Terrence Kuanum, the SFG’s Special Adviser on Public Affairs, stated that his principal has no problem with Alia in an interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Wednesday.

He asserts that Akume wants Governor Alia to act in the public interest.
Additionally, Kuanum verified that the Tor Tiv called the two and suggested that they cooperate.
“The governor and SGF are not fighting; they have no problem,” he stated. Here, however, we are discussing the lives of our people.
“The governor has never publicly stated that he is at odds with the SGF; instead, the SGF has always been out there asking for prayers for the governor to act in the best interests of our people.
“The SGF has never publicly stated that he and the governor are at odds.
“The Tor Tiv is entitled to call his kids together at any time to collaborate, and he did just that.
“The Tor Tiv failed to disclose to us that he was genuinely settling a dispute between the governor and the SGF.
“Benue is fair, and the SGF is a very calm and modest individual. This isn’t about politics; it’s about the lives of our people.
