JUST IN: Senate Clears Tinubu’s Nominees for INEC Commissioner Roles

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has five resident electoral commissioners (RECs), who were approved by the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday (today).
According to reports, this confirmation followed the report that was delivered by the Senate committee on INEC during today’s plenary session.
The following people have been verified: Chukwuemeka Obeziako, Umar Mukhtar, Sa’ad Umar Idris, Umar Yusuf Garba, and Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem. In compliance with section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution amendment, these nominations were made.
Under the leadership of Oyo South Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the committee confirmed that the candidates met the requirements for their positions. A five-year term is expected to be served by each of the recently appointed RECs.
On March 18, the Senate received a letter from President Bola Tinubu submitting the names for the new RECs.
