Just In: Tinubu Grants Posthumous Pardon to Ken Saro-Wiwa, Others

Ken Saro Wiwa (CON), the leader of the Ogoni Nine, and his fellow activists have been fully pardoned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to reports, the president made this revelation Thursday during his speech to the National Assembly in honor of June 12th, Democracy Day.
In cooperation with the National Council of State, he said, he would award the Ogoni nine activists and others whose identities will be revealed later.

“In addition, I bestow posthumous national honors on Ken Saro Wiwa (CON), the leader of the Ogoni Nine, and his fellow travelers, Saturday Dobee (OON), Nordu Eawo (OON), Daniel Gbooko (OON), Paul Levera (OON), Felix Nuate (OON), Baribor Bera (OON), Barinem Kiobel (OON), and John Kpuine (OON).” “I will also be using my authority under the prerogative of mercy to fully pardon these national heroes, along with others whose names will be revealed later in collaboration with the National Council of State,” Tinubu stated.
Remember how General Sani Abacha’s military dictatorship killed Ken Saro-Wiwa in 1995 after he was prosecuted by a special military trial for allegedly planning the killing of Ogoni chiefs during a pro-government gathering?
Nigeria was suspended from the Commonwealth of Nations for more than three years as a result of the international outcry over his execution.
