Kidnappers Invade Abuja Estate, Residents in Fear

Residents of the Grow Homes estate in the Chikakore neighborhood of Kubwa, the biggest suburban town in Abuja, were reportedly held captive for over an hour by a squad of heavily armed kidnappers who broke in on Monday morning.

The event was understood to have happened between 12:00 and 1:30 in the morning.
By daylight, the woman was found inside the estate, having been freed by her captors for unknown reasons, according to one of the terrified locals who claimed to have seen a man and a woman being abducted by the kidnappers.

He was unable to ascertain the precise number of people abducted, though.

“The incident occurred at approximately 12 a.m. The local vigilance team was overwhelmed by those well-armed individuals. There was a heated gunfight for almost half an hour before the cops arrived at around one in the morning.

“We are pleading with the authorities to repair this road so that security patrol cars may easily access it. In order to respond quickly, we also implore the police and the FCT Administration to assist in setting up a station here,” the resident told Vanguard.

The State House of Assembly and Governor Monday Okpebholo are united in their strong opposition to the growing issue of kidnapping, according to the Edo State government.

This was revealed in a statement released last Thursday by Fred Itua, the governor’s chief press secretary.

The administration clarified that the Edo State House of Assembly has approved the Kidnapping Prohibition (Amendment) Law, 2025, in a statement headlined “A STEP-BY-STEP BREAKDOWN OF NEW KIDNAPPING PROHIBITION LAW IN EDO STATE.”

By deciding to implement such extensive and severe sanctions, the Edo State government makes it very evident that it will no longer put up with illegal activity that infringes upon the sacredness of human freedom.

“The state will prioritize training law enforcement personnel, educating the public about the implications of the amendments, and sensitizing the judiciary as it carries out the provisions of this law.” To guarantee the law’s efficacy and create a safer Edo State where residents may live without fear, a multifaceted strategy is required, Itua said.
