Labour Party Hijack Attempt: Peter Obi, Otti Accused – National Secretary

The National Executive Committee (NEC), which was called by Abia State Governor Alex Otti and the party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, has been deemed unlawful by a minority of the Labour Party (LP).
The Party asserted that Obi and Otti are attempting to take over the LP’s organization in a statement issued by its National Secretary, Umar Farouk Ibrahim.
According to reports, Otti led a high-level LP team to the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday to talk about important party developments.

A Certified True Copy of the most recent Supreme Court ruling regarding the party’s leadership was duly presented by Governor Otti during the visit to INEC.

Ibrahim responded to the news by saying that the visit revealed Obi and Otti’s desperate attempt to seize control of the party’s leadership.

He stated, “The Labour Party leadership has been alerted to an unlawful NEC meeting called by Peter Obi, the party’s previous presidential candidate, and Dr. Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, where they have continued to live in an unhealthy paradise and delude themselves.”

“Mr. Peter Obi led other party outlaws to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) headquarters after their unlawful meeting in Abuja today in an effort to pressure the electoral commission into taking unlawful action against our party leadership.

“The mission demonstrated Peter Obi and Dr. Alex Otti’s extreme desperation in attempting to take over the party’s organization. Why are they hurrying to INEC to exert undue influence on the Commission to make a mistake if the Supreme Court’s ruling is indeed in their favor?

Additionally, they boasted during their meeting today that they wanted to offer Barrister Abure, the National Chairman, a gentle landing by making him the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Unfortunately for them, however, Abure did not appoint himself as National Chairman; as a result, the issue is not with Abure but rather with the statements made by the structures. It concerns executing things correctly and the primacy of the party’s organs.

“Therefore, we denounced that unlawful gathering and urge our members and the public to ignore the meeting and its conclusion.”
