Leadership Shift: Fuanter Resigns from APC Post, Yilwatda Becomes Chairman

Early Thursday morning saw the official resignation of Festus Fuanter, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Secretary.
Fuanter resigned because of the rise of Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the party’s recently chosen National Chairman and a native of the Plateau state.
According to the ruling party’s statute, which states that two national officers cannot be from the same state, the resignation was made.

Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana (SAN), the party’s national legal adviser, was already chosen by the stakeholders during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

In the meantime, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for his services to the party, particularly the creation of the Progressive Institute.

Tinubu commended Ganduje’s dedication to the party’s principles while addressing the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Thursday. He also revealed plans to keep Ganduje on as a consultant to the incoming national leadership.

He was tasked by me with creating a Progressive Institute. We can still hire him [Ganduje] as a consultant to help the new chairman revitalize it, and the National Secretary will collaborate with the chairman to do so,” the President stated.

President Tinubu announced that the dates for the States, Local Government, and Ward congresses would now take place in December, a calculated move meant to accommodate a wave of anticipated defectors.

Most people believe that this postponement is a part of the APC’s larger realignment attempts to strengthen its ranks before the general elections in 2027, particularly in light of the formation of opposition coalitions.

According to reports, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, was formally introduced as the new APC National Chairman during the NEC meeting.

Governor Hope Uzodimma, the Progressive Governors’ Forum chairman, proposed Yilwatda for the position, and Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, seconded it.
