Man Shot by DSS Operative Awarded N20 Million Compensation

The Department of State Services has compensated a Sokoto businessman who was accidentally shot during a security operation with ₦20 million.
The victim was also invited to attend the secret police’s hospital in Abuja as part of their ongoing commitment to offering free medical care.
According to reports, Tosin Ajayi, the Director-General of the DSS, approved the payment of ₦10 million in damages that had been granted to the businessman six years earlier by a court in mid-March.
The businessman was given an extra ₦10 million by the DSS DG to make up for the missed time, for a total of ₦20 million.
At that point, Ajayi gave the DSS hospital instructions to formally include the businessman in the Services’ medical care system, giving him access to free medical care whenever he wanted.
The businessman arrived at the hospital “a few days ago and has been receiving complimentary medical tests and treatment from the hospital’s top physicians,” according to a security industry insider who spoke to Vanguard.
He stated, “The man has been in the VIP ward, which is obviously fully air-conditioned, in accordance with the DG’s directive.
They have been performing a number of examinations and providing him with 24-hour medical care to help him regain complete control over his limbs. I don’t even comprehend why the DG requested free food for him.

According to reports, DSS agents accidentally shot and wounded a businessman who happened to have the same name as the accused gunrunner in Jos, Plateau State, in 2016 while conducting a predawn operation to capture the suspect.
In the end, the gunrunner was caught.
In 2018, two years after the occurrence, the businessman filed a case in a Federal High Court in Bauchi, accompanied by his lawyer, Idris Akibu.
Under the direction of Justice Muhammad Shittu Abubakar, the court issued a ruling in the matter with suit number FHC/J/CS/18/2018, ordering the DSS to pay ₦10 million in damages to the wounded businessman.
Since this regrettable instance of mistaken identity occurred, this is the third DG. When our new DG ordered us to pay the money, we were overjoyed.
He even increased the victim’s funds by an additional ₦10 million. It demonstrates that security forces can uphold the law while simultaneously being compassionate,” the insider said.
