Manchester City Kick Off Club World Cup With Victory Over Wydad Casablanca

Manchester City began their 2025 FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over African champions Wydad Casablanca at King Abdullah Sports City on Wednesday evening.
Pep Guardiola’s team lost no time in expressing their worldwide dominance after finishing third in their domestic league.
Phil Foden broke the deadlock in the second minute with a clean finish off a fast passing move that took the Moroccans off guard.

City maintained possession and speed, looking for cracks in a well-organised Wydad defence.

Their tenacity paid off again in the 42nd minute, when Jérémy Doku, who had been active on the flanks, doubled the lead with a brilliant shot to round off a slick offensive move.
While the second half saw fewer obvious chances, Manchester City maintained their lead, limiting Wydad to speculative efforts and isolated counterattacks.

Rico Lewis almost made it three late on, slamming a shot off the post in the 88th minute following a weaving run across midfield.

Manchester City now leads their group, putting them in a solid position to advance to the knockout stage.

In the other Group E encounter, Inter Milan and Monterrey drew 1-1 in Pasadena, with Lautaro Martinez cancelling out Sergio Ramos’ opener.

That means Guardiola’s side now leads the group and just needs a draw in their next match to advance.
