Nasarawa Poly Student Kills Colleague in Brutal Attack

John Gambo, a student at the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force’s Nasarawa State command in relation to the stabbing death of a fellow student.
In a statement released on Sunday in the state capital of Lafia, SP Ramhan Nansel, the Command’s public relations officer, confirmed the arrest.
According to Nansel, a neighborhood resident named Madam Mercy-Bassey complained of a violent altercation between two of her tenants, which led to the arrest.

Detectives found Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time student of ND2 Computer Science, lying in a pool of blood when they arrived on the site.
According to the spokesperson, the victim passed away from his wounds not long after being taken to the General Hospital in Nasarawa town.

After being swiftly arrested, the suspect—who is reportedly a National Diploma (ND) II student in the Department of Banking and Finance—allegedly confessed to attacking the victim with a knife and an axe.

According to the PPRO, Shettima Jauro Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, has ordered that the case be sent to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for additional investigation and possible legal action.

According to reports, ASP Shafi’u Usman Bawa, a Nigeria Police Force officer with AP/No 337979, committed suicide.

It was known that the sad event took place at Kontagora town, Niger State, on Saturday, February 8, 2025.

Newsmen were given access to a signal from the police command on Saturday night, which confirmed the tragic development.

According to reports, ASP Bawa committed himself by hanging himself from the ceiling.

According to the wireless message, Usman Bawa, the deceased’s father and a resident of Kontagora’s Rigasa neighborhood, informed the police of the occurrence.
After receiving the report, the deceased’s body was sent to Kontagora’s General Hospital, where a physician verified his passing.

Following that, the remains were given to the family to be buried in line with Islamic tradition.

The police have said that they are conducting an inquiry into the event and will release further information when it becomes available.
