National Assembly Clerk Urges Intentional Adoption of e-Parliament Model

The nation’s parliament should be digitalized for efficient operation, according to National Assembly Clerk Kamoru Ogunlana.
On Friday, May 9, Ogulana made this statement during a three-day retreat that the National Assembly and the Policy and Legal Advocacy Center (PLAC) had organized.
“The National Assembly needs to be deliberate in its use of digital technology for legislative processes,” he stated.
Digitalizing the system is no longer discretionary, he said, but is now a growing legislative obligation.
According to Ogunala, “this retreat’s agenda includes not only addressing new issues but also investigating team-building techniques that efficiently utilize our human resources.”

He added that legislative restrictions have postponed the assembly’s use of digital technologies, but that Nigeria no longer has any justifications now that the Evidence Act of 1945 has been repealed.
“That obstacle has been removed with the passage of the new Evidence Act of 2004, and there should be no justification for postponement.” “If digital technology is not integrated, we risk shutdowns in the future.” We need to adopt the e-Parliament paradigm deliberately,” he continued.
