NCAA Grounds Rano Air Plane After Mid-Flight Engine Failure

A Rano Air aircraft registered 5N-BZY has been grounded by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) after an engine failure occurred mid-flight when the aircraft was traveling from Abuja to Katsina.
As reported by Daily Trust, aviation industry sources revealed that the plane’s first engine failed while in flight, causing the flight crew to quickly implement emergency protocols.
Operations at Rano Air were disrupted as a result of the event. The trip’s Sokoto leg was canceled, leaving passengers stranded who were supposed to take flights from Sokoto to other locations.
The pilots adhered to all emergency procedures, and the oxygen masks were immediately triggered. Fortunately, the smoke dissipated before the plane landed, and newsmen were informed by an aviation official that the aircraft had landed safely and without any more incidents.
Although it was understood that a rescue plane was sent out right away to transport the passengers from Abuja to Katsina, the operational issue had an impact on the schedules of subsequent flights.
Aircraft Grounded for Examination
The NCAA’s Directorate of Airworthiness ordered the groundeding of the impacted aircraft while a thorough investigation was conducted, according to a preliminary report released by the organization.
According to the article, “engineers are currently inspecting the aircraft on the ground to identify the underlying cause of the engine problem and smoke.”
The NCAA reaffirmed its dedication to safety and stated that it will never sacrifice accepted aviation practices, even if doing so temporarily disrupts flight operations.

“Despite the unique challenges of operating in a developing environment, Nigeria’s aviation safety record remains solid,” the Authority stated.
It emphasized that Nigeria’s cautious approach has resulted in fewer severe events compared to nations with more developed infrastructure. According to the NCAA, “in this case, flights are canceled at the first indication of a safety concern.”
According to the regulatory body, the grounding of Rano Air’s aircraft conforms with worldwide safety supervision standards and international best practices.
The Authority reaffirmed, “We are dedicated to maintaining the safety of Nigerian airspace and will continue to uphold all necessary checks.”
It is anticipated that affected passengers will be accommodated in accordance with Rano Air’s obligations under Nigeria’s consumer protection laws.
The NCAA has promised the public that after the ongoing safety investigation against aircraft 5N-BZY is finished, a thorough update would be given.
