New Governing Councils Appointed by Tinubu for Three Universities

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has authorized the nomination of new Governing Council members at the University of Abuja, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU).

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the decision is the latest stage in Tinubu’s overhaul of the federal university system.
Tinubu appointed Professor Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan of the South-South, Dr. Adedeji Adefuye of the Southwest, Professor Sarki Abba Abdulkadir of the Northwest, and Professor Aminu Mohammed Dukku of the Northeast to the University of Abuja’s newly formed council.

Two new members have been appointed to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka’s Governing Council.

The University of Abuja’s Governing Council dissolved in February, and its vice-chancellor, Professor Aisha Maikudi, was removed due to issues over her nomination and legitimacy.
Tinubu appointed Professor Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan of the South-South, Dr. Adedeji Adefuye of the Southwest, Professor Sarki Abba Abdulkadir of the Northwest, and Professor Aminu Mohammed Dukku of the Northeast to the University of Abuja’s newly formed council.

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka has chosen two new members to its Governing Council.

They are Barrister Ogbonna Eugene Odo from the Southeast and Muhammad Inuwa Tahir from the Northwest.

At Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, the President nominated four new members to the university’s council.

The appointees include Dr. Nkem Okeke, a former Deputy Governor of Anambra State, and Ofoke Chukwuma Charles Ugbala, both from the Southeast.

Also appointed are Dame Amina Patrick Yakowa from the Northwest and Nojeeb Oriola Agunbiade from the Southwest.

The selections are part of the administration’s larger attempt to reposition federal universities for more responsibility, strategic planning, and academic achievement in accordance with national development goals.
