Nigeria Customs Seize N18 Million Worth of Illicit Drugs in Cross River

At the Mfum Border in Cross River State, the Nigeria Customs Service has successfully stopped a sizable shipment of illicit drugs worth ₦18 million from alleged smugglers.
659 units of controlled pharmaceutical products were seized as a result of the operation, which was carried out by the NCS’s Akwa Ibom Area Command and the Cross River/Calabar Free Trade Zone.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has received the confiscated goods for additional examination and potential legal action.

216 units of morphine sulphate and phthalidine 100 mg each, 108 units of fentanyl 50 mm, 37 packets of phenobarbital, 37 units of sodium sterop, 33 units of midazolam mylan, and 26 units of sodium injectables were among the items that were intercepted.
Area Comptroller Gabriel Ogbonna commended his colleagues for their hard work at the ceremonial handover on Wednesday at the NCS Command Headquarters in Calabar, pointing out that the operation was an example of the NCS and NDLEA working together effectively.

“I hereby turn these items over to the NDLEA on behalf of the NCS Comptroller General,” Ogbonna stated.

“This seizure serves as a teaching tool for our younger officers to understand the importance of inter-agency cooperation, in addition to being a success story.”

He emphasized that the operation showed the two agencies’ growing cooperation and displayed their shared commitment to national security.

Rachael Umebuali, the NDLEA Commander in Cross River State, expressed her gratitude for Customs’ ongoing assistance during her speech, highlighting the vital role collaboration plays in the fight against drug trafficking.

“This collaboration improves our operational effectiveness and guarantees that our services to Nigerians continue to have a significant and positive impact,” she said.

Investigators are working to find the people behind the smuggling operation, according to authorities.
