Nigeria Police Drop Defamation Charge Against Farotimi

The Nigeria Police have dropped the purported defamation lawsuit against novelist and lawyer Dele Farotimi of Lagos that was brought by Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun.

According to information obtained, the notice of discontinuance, dated January 29, was submitted in accordance with Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, Section 108 (1)(2)(a). It aims to drop the charge that is currently pending against Mr. Farotimi before the Ado-Ekiti Federal High Court.

Samson Osubu, the police prosecutor, signed the notice, which also stated that the police would seek the court to drop the charge because Are Afe Babalola, the nominal complainant, wanted to end the case after well-meaning Nigerians intervened.
