NSCDC Dismantles 7 Illegal Oil Dumps in Abuja, Arrests 7 Suspects

Seven people have been taken into custody by the CG Special Intelligence Squad, or CG SIS, on suspicion of running seven illicit oil dumps in Jahi/Katampe, Federal Capital Territory, or FCT, Abuja.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, ordered a ruthless crackdown on oil thieves throughout the federation, according to a statement released by CSC Afolabi Babawale, National Public Relations Officer, NSCDC National Headquarters, Abuja.
The CG SIS Commander, AS Dandaura, stated in a thorough interview that the operation that resulted in the arrests was a well-planned raid that was prompted by a reliable intelligence report that certain suspected vandals were illegally refining petroleum products.
“My men and I acted quickly on the intelligence we received and discovered five of the seven illegal oil dumps that were raided.”
During the sting operations, the following suspects were taken into custody: Bello (M) 33 years, Wednesday Israel (M) 34 years, Uchenna Kelechi (M) 44 years, Anas Usman (M) 33 years, Jonathan Onekutu (M) 45 years, and Akande Olusola (M) 48 years.
At the crime site, the following objects were recovered as exhibits: There were four (4) Short Peddler Trucks with registration numbers RSH-197ZAN and SR-27YW, two of which had no visible registration numbers, a Mercedes Benz Short Peddler Truck 1202 model with registration number FST-425XB, and one white truck with registration number GYA-777XA that had three compartments completely loaded with 45,000 liters of AGO; A white-colored DAF CF KSF-161XQ; MAN Diesel Short Truck KWL-241XA; Volkswagen Bus RBC-140XF; red and white-colored DAF CF Short Peddler Truck with Reg. No. RBC-431XG; two (2) counting machines; Toyota Matrix (blue) with Reg. No. KWL-644ZY; two (2) Toyota Corolla cars with Reg. Nos. AWE-717AA and ABJ-893BE; roughly 25 locally constructed metal tanks; various hose sizes; more than 50 calibrated rubber surface tanks; two (2) Volkswagen Faragon buses with built-in tanks; container shelter; Mikano generator; two metal funnels; numerous plastic buckets; and Short Peddler Tankers without heads.

In order to act as a deterrence to others, Commandant Dandaura, the head of CG SIS, made a suggestion that the NSCDC would use its Legal Department to approach a court of competent jurisdiction and that due diligence would be followed throughout the investigation and prosecution process.
