NYSC Discloses Why Certificate Was Withheld from Viral Corps Member Ushie Rita

Claims that Ushie Rita Uguamaye (state code LA/24B/8325), a corps member, had her Certificate of National Service (CNS) revoked by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) due to supposed anti-government statements have been rejected.
“Entirely unfounded and false in its entirety,” the NYSC said in a statement on its official page, stating that the decision was made for legitimate disciplinary reasons in accordance with its bye-laws.
The NYSC reports that 131 corps members had their certifications revoked for a variety of offenses, including Ms. Ushie. Due to her failure to attend the biometric clearing exercise in April 2025, her service year was prolonged by two months.

“The NYSC Management would like to address false information that is making the rounds on social media concerning Corps Member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, State Code number LA/24B/8325,” the message says. This is completely untrue and unsubstantiated, in contrast to the erroneous assertions that she was refused a Certificate of National Service (CNS) because she made negative comments about the administration.

Rita is one of 131 Military personnel whose Certificates of National Service (CNS) were revoked due to legitimate disciplinary matters. In particular, in accordance with the NYSC Bye-Laws, Rita’s service year has been extended by two months for missing the biometrics clearance in April 2025.

The principle of equal treatment was only implemented in this instance, and it is crucial to remember that this extension is a typical procedure and not specific to her case.

Since prolonging service for non-compliance is a traditional NYSC tradition and shouldn’t be politicized, the NYSC Management therefore asks the public to handle this issue with understanding.

In accordance with the constitution’s requirements, the NYSC Scheme is still dedicated to carrying out its duty.
