Obi Proposes Single-Term Deal to Opposition Bloc – Obidient Movement Leader

The newly formed opposition alliance has received a formal proposal from Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender, for a single four-year term.
According to reports, Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, verified the development on Tuesday.
Tanko revealed this information at a ceremony in Pantami, Gombe State, where Obi received the traditional title of “Sarki Maskan” (War Hero) and a letter of commendation from Mai Martaba Abdullahi, the district head of Pantami, for his humanitarian efforts in the area.

The title of “Dan Maje Babba Pantanmi” was also bestowed upon Obi’s previous media assistant.
The high-level coalition, which consists of well-known opposition leaders like former Senate President David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has been presented with Obi’s four-year tenure proposal, Tanko confirmed to Punch on the sidelines of the event.

The coalition has been shown it,” Tanko stated. It is present so they can decide. However, we have faith that it can succeed.

Peter Obi exemplifies the honesty that underpins this declaration. Integrity in leadership is what Nigeria needs right now.

According to him, Obi thinks that a single four-year tenure will be enough to restore Nigeria’s faltering economy and begin its development.

Even while the constitution does not specify a single term, Obi has made it plain that he intends to serve just one term, according to Tanko. He thinks he can effectively complete his mission in four years.

Under Obi’s leadership, Tanko continued, resolving Nigeria’s electricity crisis alone would “solve a multitude of problems,” including increasing domestic production and reducing need on outside help.

“He is promising that Nigeria will become an exporting nation again under his leadership,” he said. Our airports won’t be empty of planes anymore.

Why Obi Accepted Pantami’s Title Following Years of Refusing to Receive Honors
Obi’s choice to accept the Sarki Maskan title was also discussed by Tanko, who pointed out that the honor has special meaning because it comes from a Muslim community in the north.

Tanko clarified, saying, “Obi is not a title-chasing man. But this one is unique. It originated when a village in the north honored an Igbo man for his influence and kindness.

Obi’s increasing popularity across the country, particularly in the North, where he was not as popular in the 2023 elections, is evident from this.

As evidence of Obi’s popularity at the grassroots level, the Obidient coordinator pointed to his community projects in Northern Nigeria, such as the installation of boreholes and school interventions in Almajiri.

There is clean water available in Pantami now for both humans and animals. Currently, residents say, “Go get me water from Peter Obi’s borehole.” “It indicates that something has changed,” he remarked.

Tanko pointed out that Obi’s encouragement of youth entrepreneurship in the north and his own contributions to disadvantaged schools had further won over groups that were previously thought of as politically remote.

Tanko concluded that the North might be embracing Obi’s message in advance of the 2027 elections, describing Pantami’s acknowledgment as a sign of shifting political alignments.
