Onanuga: CNG Cylinder Not to Blame for Abuja Tanker Explosion

Reports that the compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinder on the truck that collided with a gasoline tanker in Karu, Abuja, on Wednesday exploded have been refuted by Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

In a Thursday morning post on his official 𝕏 account, the presidential communications advisor claimed that the truck’s CNG cylinder had not exploded and had been found undamaged.
He also refuted certain claims that the unfortunate explosion that happened on Wednesday night was caused by the CNG cylinder exploding.

This is the CNG cylinder from the cement truck that collided with the gasoline tanker that exploded on Wednesday night in Karu, Abuja. The CNG cylinder was found undamaged, despite previous assertions to the contrary. It didn’t blow up. Along with a video of the cylinder, Onanuga posted on 𝕏, “And it was not the cause of the tragic explosion.”

Meanwhile, a deadly tanker explosion near Abuja’s Karu Bridge on Wednesday night has been reported by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.

The incident happened at around 7:14 p.m. and resulted in the destruction of several automobiles as well as considerable concern among commuters and locals.

Six people were killed in the event, according to the police, and 14 cars were totally burned.

According to reports, SP Josephine Adeh, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, characterized the incident as a catastrophic motor vehicle collision that occurred before to Nyanya Bridge in an official statement.

Six people were recovered from the wreckage but were later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the police, although some witnesses saying that the death toll approached ten.
