Oyo Monarch Dismisses Chief Over Claims of Parallel Government and Extortion

Mallam Memudu was fired by Oba Azeez Soliu Oyemonla, the Sabiganna of Iganna Kingdom in the Iwajowa local government area of Oyo State, for suspected extortion, insubordination, and acts that were deemed to have the potential to disturb the peace in the area.
The monarch had accused Memudu of posing as Seriki Samori in the village in a formal complaint filed with the Iganna Police Area Command.
Oba Agunloye explained in a letter to the area command that Memudu, who was first proposed by the king and then accepted by the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, had strayed from his assigned position.
The monarch claims that Memudu was first sent in to handle disputes between Fulani farmers and herders and to give security forces vital intelligence.
However, he charged Memudu with forming a “parallel government” and committing crimes.
Oba Agunloye said, “He has been abusing his office by establishing a parallel government for himself, extorting money from Fulani constituents through threats, and being insubordinate to my office as the paramount traditional ruler of Iganna Kingdom and the prescribed authority.”
The Sabiganna further asserted that Memudu had taken advantage of the alleged illicit activities of the Fulani youths for his own benefit rather than reorienting them toward lawful behavior.

The monarch went on to say, “His primary concern had been extortions rather than the crisis management he vowed to uphold.”
Oba Oyemonla asserted that Memudu’s actions were now threatening regional security and weakening traditional authority, despite repeated warnings being disregarded.
The monarch brought up a particular instance of arson in the Onikoro region, where Memudu was accused of manipulating suspected Fulani people and obstructing investigations.
“In the interest of peace and stability of the local government, this is a dangerous security trend in my kingdom that should not be treated with kid gloves,” Oba Agunloye stated.
In order to caution Memudu against posing as Seriki Samori in the local government, the king asked the Iganna Area Command to call him.
In order to avert future escalation and to solidify the enhanced security architecture in Iwajowa LGA and its surroundings, the monarch also urged swift action.
