Only a few weeks after being exonerated of several grave accusations, Nigerian televangelist Timothy Omotoso was deported from South Africa.
The South African Department of Home Affairs formally designated Omotoso as a “undesirable person,” and on May 18, 2025, he was expelled from the nation. The pastor is shown being accompanied by immigration and police officers at OR Tambo International Airport as he boards a flight headed for Nigeria in a widely circulated video.
This comes soon after Omotoso was found not guilty on 32 charges, including rape and human trafficking, in April 2025. He was detained in 2017 and held for almost eight years until being exonerated of all accusations, which is when his legal issues began.
With the eventual acquittal igniting controversy and debate regarding the legal system and its effects on the accused and alleged victims, the case had garnered a great deal of public attention over the years.
