PDP Reclamation Underway, Says Party Leader Nwobu

In Anambra State, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, the former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called Nyesom Wike’s unwillingness to quit the party a cowardly move.
Nwobu said in a Thursday interview with reporters in Awka that Wike’s open support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and his claim to be a PDP member made no sense.
Even though Wike openly supported the Tinubu administration, he claimed that he lacked the guts to formally defect by joining the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC for short.
Should Wike possess sufficient masculinity, he would go and acquire an APC membership card. I firmly believe that he is a coward for supporting President Tinubu while maintaining his PDP membership. That is what kind of contradiction? You cannot support the interests of one party while claiming allegiance to another. According to Nwobu, that is not how political integrity operates.

He went on to say that Wike had an excessive amount of power over the PDP while he was governor, serving as the party’s illusory leader and choosing who would hold important positions.
Wike acted in every way as though he was supporting the party at the time, but it is now obvious that he had other plans. Throughout the party hierarchy, he instilled loyalists, especially in the National Working Committee (NWC). While he was establishing the foundation for his own political aspirations, he pretended to be protecting the party’s interests, Nwobu said.
Given that many of Wike’s supporters continue to hold important positions and serve as a buffer, he continued, the party has found it challenging to discipline him due to his lasting influence.
As he pretended to be employed by the party, he was solidifying his position. From the secretary to the national chairman, he was responsible for the majority of the former NWC members’ positions. Nwobu stated, “It has been challenging to address the issue directly because he continues to maintain their allegiance through financial inducement.”
But he also pointed out that there are already steps underway to take the party back from Wike.
The national secretary is no longer with us; we’ve already dealt with him. Other people will come after. He continued, “Removing his loyalists from such strategic offices will help restore integrity to the PDP. The national secretary position is crucial in any party.”
The National Executive Council, or NEC, will hold a meeting in May to ratify the decisions made by the NWC, Nwobu disclosed. New leadership is anticipated to emerge at a national convention that will follow.
“The party will no longer be held hostage by political coloration once a new leadership takes power. Wike’s excessive influence will be eliminated at last,” he continued.
