PDP Slams Governor Uzodinma Over N2.1 Billion Hajj Spending, Says Imo Deserves Better

The Hope Uzodimma-led administration’s decision to spend an astounding ₦2.1 billion on Muslim pilgrimages and throw a party to celebrate airlifting the pilgrims has been denounced by the Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The party maintained that the administration had no right to spend public funds on a program that would only benefit 315 people and to throw a lavish reception to welcome Vice President Kashim Shettima in connection with the pilgrims’ airlift.
The PDP called the gesture a needless endeavor in a statement released in Owerri by its spokesperson, Lancelot Obiaku, particularly in light of the nation’s escalating security threats and economic hardship brought on by the country’s skyrocketing inflation rate.

He said that the fact that the incident happened a day after armed attackers besieged the communities of Umuna and Okigwe in Onuimo LGA, killing at least 20 people, kidnapping others, and burning more than 22 vehicles, made it much more concerning and unsettling.

He sought Uzodimma’s resignation and accused him of egregious ineptitude.

“We vehemently condemn the fact that Governor Uzodimma frequently acts as though he is not an Imolite, consistently reluctant to offer leadership or express empathy over the frightening challenges of insecurity, poverty, and lack of basic amenities confronting the people of Imo State,” the statement says.

“Normally, the governor would have acted quickly to stop the alleged Fulani terrorists in Ngor Okpala as the area has become a stronghold for the ruthless bandits.

“This contributes to the somber stories coming out of the LGAs of Okigwe, Orsu, Njaba, Onuimo, Oru West, and Orlu, where criminal elements have taken over communities and are still terrorizing innocent people.”

“Imo can no longer put up with a governor who lacks competence and an administration that is indifferent to the suffering of its people. Thus, at this crucial juncture in our state’s history, the Imo PDP urges Ndi Imo to band together in order to hold this administration completely responsible.
