Peter Obi Condemns Ongoing Killings in Benue, Plateau, Urges Government Action

Peter Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, expressed his concerns about the ongoing murders in Benue, Plateau, and various other regions of the country.
On Wednesday, Obi spoke through his X account and called on the federal government to make the security and survival of the people its top priority.
The ex-governor of Anambra expressed his sympathies to the Benue populace regarding the recent state killings and affirmed that the government needs to show compassion.

He praised the recent decision by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oloyede, to move to Benue State with Principal Staff Officers.

Obi stated that this decision represents a welcome change in prioritizing the security of a region that has suffered far too much bloodshed.
He stated, “In light of my previous comments regarding the security situation in Benue State on May 28th, 2025, I would like to once again offer my sincere condolences to the good people of Benue State for the tragic and senseless killings that continue to afflict their communities.

“The suffering, torment, and grief felt throughout Benue are not just devastating; they also represent a serious condemnation of a country that keeps letting its citizens down. Only a few days back, I remarked on the escalating violence and bloodshed sweeping through our nation, especially in the states of Benue, Kogi, and Plateau. Regrettably, these fears have once more materialized into our tragic reality, with communities under assault and the loss of innocent lives. It is not only unacceptable, but also intolerable.

“I commend the recent decision by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oloyede, to move to Benue State along with Principal Staff Officers. With this decision, a welcome change is indicated: the security of a region that has suffered far too much bloodshed is to be prioritized.

“I pray earnestly that this action brings about lasting change for the good and resilient people of Benue, who deserve not only protection but also meaningful justice and the freedom to live, farm, and work in peace without fear.

“The blood of blameless Nigerians calls for justice. Ensuring the safety and survival of our people should be the primary duty of any government that purports to be responsible and caring.

“I sympathize with each grieving family in Benue and throughout Nigeria. My support for you goes beyond verbal affirmation; I join you in demanding urgent, intentional, and all-encompassing action.

„Eine sichere Nigeria ist möglich.“
