Peter Obi: Only the Best Will Emerge to Challenge Tinubu in 2027

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender, has said that if the coalition does not choose him as its flagbearer, it is too soon to reveal his next course of action.
Obi reportedly made this statement in the midst of mounting speculation about the composition and direction of the opposition coalition that would be formed in front of the 2027 elections.
Obi made the statement on Sunday at a virtual interview with ParallelFact on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter), where he answered questions from political analysts and supporters.

When asked what he would do if he were not chosen as the presidential candidate by the coalition of opposition leaders, which consists of Rotimi Amaechi, Atiku Abubakar, and Nasir El-Rufai, Obi replied that the group had not yet chosen a party.

He reassured his supporters that he was still dedicated to inclusive politics and emphasized that talks were still going on.

“From day one, I have always attended every meeting of the coalition unless I traveled,” stated the former governor of Anambra State. Every time I encounter problems, I talk to them about them. I cannot guarantee that Peter Obi will be produced by the coalition. We talk about that when we get to that point.

However, the alliance represents our united efforts to defend the nation. We haven’t arrived at the point where we predict it will be this individual. individuals who are getting together, in my opinion, are good individuals who wish to work for the [country’s] benefit. That’s what I think.

And if that’s the case, I think we will all have to make sacrifices for the nation at some point. That’s my perspective. We’ll make sure the most qualified applicant becomes [candidate] at that point.

Adopting a party is what the coalition desires. And we’ll be doing that shortly. There will still be other parties involved. Other parties have not joined due of issues within their own parties.

“I wish I could respond to your question, but I’m afraid I can’t at this time. As I have stated, the coalition is not discussing who will be this or anything else. I shall act in the nation’s best interests and in accordance with the wishes of those I lead and follow. I don’t talk about such topics by myself.

Leaders have rarely acted without consulting others or acting as though they were acting alone. It’s not time yet. All we want to do now is get together. For me, I will consult and you will see when the time comes. After that, I shall explain my plan of action. I’ve never taken any action without first consulting someone. I consulted before leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, as people close to me would be aware. I didn’t just decide to do this when I woke up in the morning. And I wouldn’t just make announcements without consulting anyone if I were elected president.
