Police Foil Bandit Attack on NSCDC Personnel in Katsina, One Killed

An armed banditti attack along the Dutsinma-Kurfi road in the State’s Dutsinma local government area was successfully prevented by the Nigeria Police Force’s Katsina State command.
According to a statement released by DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the spokesperson for the Command, the incident occurred early on Sunday, February 23, 2025, when accused bandits targeted on-duty members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
He said that at around 12:57 am, officers from the Dutsinma Divisional Police Headquarters received an emergency call and immediately hurried to the scene.

The bandits were forced to flee as a result of a gunfight, and some were wounded by the gunfire.
Security personnel discovered the body of one neutralized suspected bandit while combing the area.

While investigations continue, the police have increased their attempts to apprehend the fleeing individuals.

As a result, the Police Command informed the community of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding people and property across the State.

Residents of Sokoto State’s Sabon Birni Local Government Area are reportedly in trouble as a result of Bello Turji, a notorious bandit leader, making excessive demands on them.

According to information obtained, the gang levied a ₦25 million tax on the local communities in retaliation for the death of one of their members and the confiscation of weapons during a recent altercation with security personnel.

To guarantee the release of 12 worshippers who were kidnapped by the robbers in four different villages, the people are also frantically trying to raise ₦3 million.

A ransom of ₦250,000 has been demanded of each of the 12 kidnapped worshippers, according to Hon. Ibrahim Saidu Naino, who represents Sabon Birni East in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, according to Vanguard.

The large fee that Turji’s gang has requested from the villages is the source of this ransom.

Naino described the events in detail, saying that locals had retaliated against the attackers with military assistance, killing one of them and taking some of their weapons.

The armed group responded with a monetary fine, which they said was reimbursement for their losses.
