Police Intercept Woman Carrying 481 Live Cartridges in Nasarawa

After arresting a 21-year-old woman accused of guns trafficking, the Nigeria Police Force’s Nasarawa State command confiscated 481 rounds of live ammunition.
The arrest was the consequence of a carefully thought-out operation that was conducted in many key local government regions, according to a statement released on Thursday by SP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).
Based on credible information, Nansel stated that the police apprehended Fatima Salisu, a resident of Funtua in Katsina State, in the Azuba neighborhood of Lafia.

She allegedly had plans to deliver the ammo to criminal groups in Katsina and was in route through Keana and Doma LGAs.

Nansel added that the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit was deployed under the direction of Commissioner of Police CP Shetima J. Mohammed, and that the arrest was carried out with remarkable precision.
81 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammo and 400 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition were found on the suspect.

Meanwhile, gunmen in Plateau State’s Riyom local government area assaulted the Wereng Camp settlement on Wednesday night, killing at least nine people and leaving an unknown number of others injured.

The attackers also set fire to a number of homes in the neighborhood, forcing people to evacuate a site that has been the target of ongoing attacks for more than 10 years, according to information obtained.

Notably, there has been a recent surge in attacks by gunmen allegedly connected to the Fulani militia in the local government areas of Bokkos, Wase, and Barkin-Ladi, resulting in fatalities and the destruction of properties worth millions of naira.

Vanguard said that an insider from the Wereng Camp community revealed that the attackers began their attack at exactly 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, when the majority of the people had already gone to bed, therefore besieging the location.

To signal their arrival, they fired into the air, generating panic and scattering the locals in all directions.

The several assailants allegedly traveled from one residence to another, shooting people and burning their houses down.

The source described how several residents tried to protect their neighborhood but were finally overpowered by the assailants’ superior firepower.
