President Tinubu Gives Nod to Full Entitlements for Super Falcons, D’Tigress

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given his approval for the Super Falcons to receive their match bonuses and allowances in full and immediately before their final match against Morocco in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
In his announcement on Thursday, Shehu Dikko, the chairman of the National Sports Commission, confirmed that all entitlements up until and including the July 26 final are covered by the authorized funds.
“We are in the process of implementing this policy,” Dikko told reporters in Abuja.

“Players, coaches, and officials will receive their immediate payment of all outstanding entitlements.”

According to reports, the development represents a significant change in the way that Nigeria handles sports administration, and Dikko emphasized that timely allowance payments would now be the rule rather than the exception starting now.

“We are establishing this type of sports administration, which is based on respect, confidence, and mutual success,” he stated.

Athletes can now proudly represent their nation under Tinubu’s leadership, Dikko continued, knowing that their well-being is a primary concern.

Tigress, D
According to reports, Tinubu’s gesture extends beyond the Super Falcons. The President also gave his approval for an increase in allowances and bonuses for D’Tigress, Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, who will begin their campaign at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Côte d’Ivoire.

Dikko claims that D’Tigress has received the same framework of assistance and prompt payment as they get ready to fly the national flag in Abidjan.

Those days are over, Dikko promised, adding that President Tinubu’s endorsement is a definite break from previous policies and reaffirms the administration’s dedication to athlete welfare and sports development.

“This will go down in the history books as the pivotal moment — when athletes were respected and given timely rewards,” he said.

In what is sure to be an exciting WAFCON final, the Super Falcons will take on host Morocco, while D’Tigress will start defending their continental title in the upcoming weeks.
