‘She Sent Envoys to Influence Verdict’ – Senator Abbo Claims Judge Was Pressured To Rule Against Him Over Senatorial Seat

Elijah Ishaku Abbo, a former senatorial representative for Adamawa North, has charged that the judiciary manipulated the results of the 2023 election against him.
Recall that on October 16, 2023, the Court of Appeal in Abuja ruled that Abbo’s victory was invalid and that Amos Yohanna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was the legitimate victor of the Adamawa North senatorial election held on February 25, 2023.
During an interview on Wednesday night, April 2, 2025, on Arise Television’s PrimeTime show, Abbo said that “judicial banditry” was the reason he lost his Senate seat in the 10th Senate.
Abbo claimed that the legal system was tainted and that the judge was under pressure to decide against him.
He claimed that the judge’s decision to summon former Senate President Ken Nnamani to his home to plead with him about the ruling validated inconsistencies in the legal system.
Senator Abbo said that the NJC had failed in its role and called for its dissolution, expressing dissatisfaction over what he called a lack of accountability in the court.
“Judicial banditry cost me my Senate seat because there is no law to support what happened,” he remarked. The Judge had to send Ken Nnamani to come and beg me at my house because, in my opinion, she is aware of what she done. Ken Nnamani is still alive, it’s true.

She was under pressure, of course, as I have repeatedly said. Regretfully, the National Judicial Council (NJC), to which I petitioned, has evolved into a body that can only punish magistrates and high court judges, but not large judges.
He said, “They are doing nothing, they should dismantle the NJC.” “I support the NBA punishing judges by removing them from office through a vote of no confidence.”
The court’s ruling was also criticized by the former federal member, who pointed out that two of Adamawa North’s five local government districts had their election results canceled without a rerun.
This is not the law, it is robbery, it is a coup against democracy, he continued. “A situation where a judge said that an election that took place in five local governments, and she cancelled the election in two local governments, disenfranchised two local governments, 263 polling units, and did not order a re-election as the law stipulates.”
