Soludo Throws Weight Behind May & Baker’s Made-in-Nigeria Drug Initiative

The Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Prof. Chukwuma Soludo CFR, has praised May & Baker Nigeria PLC for their local production at the Pharmacentre, a May & Baker Ultramodern factory in Ota, Ogun State.
After arriving at the 2025 ACPN conference, which was recently held in Awka, Anambra State, Governor Soludo made his first stop at the May & Baker exhibit stand. The governor expressed admiration for the fact that the majority of the medications on display were made in the May & Baker Ultramodern Facility in Ota, the Pharmacenter.
As the first pharmaceutical company in Nigeria, May & Baker’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Pharm Patrick Ajah, emphasized to the Governor the company’s commitment to investing in innovation and high-quality locally made pharmaceuticals. The investment in the herbal factory, which produces innovative herbal medicines based on research by Nigerian researchers and locally available herbs, was of particular interest, he said.

One such product, “Roveda,” is made from the local bitter leaf and is the result of research by Niclovix, from the Nigerian Institute for Pharmaceutical Research (NIPRD) in Abuja, and Prof. Izevbigie, a Nigerian scientist and vice chancellor of Benson Idahosa University in Benin City. Ajah highlighted this product.
Both goods are made at the May & Baker herb factory and marketed by the company.
With rapt attention, the governor asked a few questions concerning the pharmaceuticals, including their intended uses and the individuals for whom they are intended.
When asked about M&B’s investment in Anambra State, Soludo was told by the MD/CEO that May & Baker currently operates a depot operation in Onitsha and is currently constructing her own facility there.
