Bayelsa Residents Threaten Oil Shutdown, Issue Final Warning

Within 14 days, local communities in Bayelsa State have threatened to close important oil resources.
They are objecting to the departure of a security company supported by the community from guarding oil operations.
NNPC Exploration & Production Limited (NEPL) is being pressured by the impacted communities, known as KEFFES, to change its mind about terminating a contract with Multiplan Nigeria Limited, a security firm they endorse. Additionally, they demand that all three of the community security vessels stay at oil mining leases (OMLs) 86 and 88. Cultural tours in Nigeria
Eight oil-producing localities in Brass and Southern Ijaw Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State are represented by KEFFES: Koluama 1 & 2, Ezetu 1 & 2, Foropa, Fish Town, Ekeni, and Sangana.
In order to safeguard the region and lessen threats, Chevron Nigeria Limited introduced security vessel contracts in 2007, which is when the conflict began. Pennington Production Limited, a division of NNPC, committed to carry on the contracts, including security services, when Chevron departed in 2021. Cultural tours in Nigeria
But according to the communities, NEPL recently fired Multiplan Nigeria Limited and gave a security vessel contract to a business with no local connections. The communities claim that this decision hurts their economy and breaches previous agreements.

In a letter dated March 28, 2025, the communities stated that “these contracts directly affect our security and livelihoods.” “This unilateral decision to exclude us threatens the tenuous peace we have upheld over the years, in addition to violating our agreement.”
The quick return of all three security vessels, the settlement of unpaid security costs from 2024, and immediate negotiations with NEPL are the three main requests stated by the inhabitants. The organization threatened to stop oil production in the region if its demands were not fulfilled.
