State of Emergency: Shinkafi Opposes Calls for Zamfara Governor Lawal’s Removal

Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, the Social Development & Patron of the Bola Tinubu/Kashim Shettima Presidential Campaign Council 2023 and a former Zamfara State governorship candidate, has opposed the proposal for a state of emergency in Zamfara State.
“Such calls are only sponsored by desperate politicians who lost elections and want to seize power unconstitutionally to loot the treasury and impoverish the people,” Shinkafi said in a statement signed on behalf of the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development.
He said, “We urge President Bola Tinubu and all lovers of democracy to ignore them as they wallow in their delusions of grandeur, as we are aware of their antics as expired politicians.”
“These agents provocateurs want to divert Governor Dauda Lawal’s attention and cause the state to revert to its pre-May 29, 2023, state of affairs.”
“These reactionary forces, blinded by local interests, show a lack of knowledge about the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, amended Constitution’s stringent requirements for the removal of a duly elected governor and state lawmakers, as well as the president’s authority to declare a state of emergency in any region of the nation.” It is abnormal and undemocratic to appoint a single administration.
“Undoubtedly, none of the explicit clauses in the country’s Constitution that allow for the removal of the governor or the declaration of a state of emergency in Zamfara State apply there. Overheating the political climate and causing political unrest is a bad idea.
The rule of law, not force, governs Nigeria. Autocracy, despotism, and dictatorship have no place in constitutional democracy. As a democrat who pledged to defend the Constitution, President Tinubu will not give in to political operatives demanding a state of emergency in any state where the electorate has rejected them.
“Politicians in Zamfara State are urged by Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development to follow the law, respect democratic principles, values, and ethics, and avoid politics of resentment, which undermines the progress of our hard-won democracy.”

“As Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Tinubu has combated armed banditry in the state head-on with the help of our valiant soldiers, other security services, and Governor Dauda Lawal. This has greatly improved security, public safety, and order in Zamfara State.”
The payment of the ₦70,000 national minimum wage to civil servants and the pledge to resolve any ambiguities in the implementation of the national minimum wage for senior civil servants are just two examples of the vital dividends of democracy that citizens have received as a result of the improved security, which cleared the path for thriving economic activity, social services, and infrastructure development.
As stated in his Rescue Mission, Governor Lawal is a man of unwavering effort with extraordinary political sagacity, leadership acumen, and tenacity of purpose to provide citizens with the fruits of democracy and alleviate their suffering. If the groups and their sponsors were hoping to divert his attention, they have failed miserably.
“Partisan politics for the general election in 2027 are not yet appropriate. Everyone ought to relax and work toward improving Zamfara State. Patriotism, not hostility, is needed now.
