“Stop Bullying Senator Natasha” – Top Kogi Politician Cautions Akpabio

Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, the Kogi State SDP’s gubernatorial candidate, has harshly denounced Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s treatment of Senator Natasha Akpoti at a recent Senate plenary session, calling it “legislative autocracy and rascality.”

Ajaka attacked Akpabio’s leadership style in a statement released on Thursday, February 20, saying that he exhibits undemocratic inclinations that compromise the Senate’s integrity.
He said that the widely shared video of the incident was embarrassing and that it confirmed the idea that the Senate, led by Akpabio, is neither independent or respectful of the constitution.

Nigerians long for an accountable Senate that listens to their concerns. Democracy is seriously threatened when tyrannical and insensitive actions by elected officials deny them the ability to speak for their constituents, Ajaka said.
He added that Akpabio should have the leadership abilities to encourage collaboration among parliamentarians of all genders, backgrounds, and political affiliations because of his extensive political experience as a former governor, minister, and Senate President.

“It is disheartening that he continues to harass Senator Natasha, and this has to end,” Ajaka continued.
He urged the Senate to act quickly to replace Akpabio with a more capable and inclusive leader, cautioning that if the Senate does not maintain justice, equity, and respect for all members, Nigeria’s democracy will be in jeopardy.

In his closing remarks, Ajaka urged the Senate to put more effort into advancing the welfare of its constituents rather than getting involved in disputes that undermine democratic principles.
