Peter Obi Rejects Second Term System, Calls for Single 5-Year Rule

Peter Obi, a former Labour Party presidential candidate, has criticized Nigeria’s present political system, which permits an elected governor or president to hold office for eight years.
According to reports, Obi claimed that the country’s governance issues included the second tenure opportunity permitted by the Nigerian Constitution.
He made this claim on Thursday when discussing “Politics and Change in Nigeria” at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

The previous governor of Anambra State favored giving presidents and governors a single five-year term.

“A second tenure of eight years is not necessary. since I believe that contributes to our issue. People must only attend for one term. Five years for me. Whatever you can do, I think. Indeed, you might not be able to pursue your goals in five years. “But after five years, you can show the right direction,” some people remark. “If you have good intentions,” he said.
The national chairman of the Labour Party emphasized that although young people in Nigeria and Africa had talent, their leaders have not been able to fully utilize their potential.

“Nigeria is still a nation with enormous potential. Natural resource potential in Africa and Nigeria is enormous. I am aware that human capital needs to be taught, but we have young individuals who are incredibly talented, dynamic, and pushing things in the correct direction.

“As for government, they just organize corporate leadership based on doing the right things, as I mentioned,” he remarked.
