Coalition in the Works as Opposition Eyes APC-Controlled State

Ahead of the general election in 2027, Katsina State’s opposition political groups have begun negotiations to create a coalition against the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to Katsina’s PDP stakeholders on Wednesday, Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa, a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), disclosed this information.

APC Governor Dikko Umar Radda, who succeeded APC Governor Aminu Bello Masari in 2023, is currently in charge of Katsina State.

Before joining the PDP, Inuwa ran in the 2023 APC governorship primary. He acknowledged that opposition groups were collaborating to overthrow the incumbent party.

“To form a coalition for the 2027 election, we have started talks with members of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and even prominent APC members,” he stated.

Additionally, he asserted that some APC members covertly back the movement.

“Some of the APC members who are supporting this movement hold important positions in the APC government at the state and federal level, which may surprise you,” Inuwa continued.

Opposition leaders, including prominent politicians from Katsina and beyond, were nearing a decision on which party to form for the 2027 elections, he explained.

He claims that talks have made great progress and that the objective is to depose the APC from both state and federal office.

In the 2023 election, Inuwa was the director of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign.

Former PDP National Secretary Senator Umar Tsauri, former Daura Zone Senator Ahmed Babba-Kaita, and PDP chieftain Ahmed Musa-Yar’adua were among those in attendance.
