NUJ Calls for Support for Special Needs School in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Council, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has called on the state government and civic-minded people to give the predicament of the state’s special needs school pupils more consideration.

During Friday’s 2025 Valentine Charity outing of the NUJ’s Inspiration FM chapel, which had as its theme “A Heart For Others,” held at the Learning Disabilities Society of Nigeria, LDSN, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Amos Etuk, the Chairman of NUJ, Akwa Ibom State, made the call.

According to Etuk, in order to ensure that the special education process runs smoothly, the incoming commissioner of education should give the needs and welfare of the children top priority.

Additionally, he conveyed his anticipation that Governor Umo Eno would visit the center and attend to their urgent needs if the union’s advocacy efforts were successful.

Additionally, he expressed gratitude to their teachers for their perseverance in instructing and guiding the children with special needs and wished that they would soon receive enough support and assistance.

“This is the greatest Valentine’s Day moment I’ve ever witnessed,” he said. I have a deep faith in God, and I observe the gregarious children.

“I’ll pursue more vigorous agitation to get the government to give them more consideration. We have an attentive governor who is passionate about humankind and education, and I am confident that he will come here someday thanks to my advocacy.

Earlier in her remarks, Comrade Imaobong Dem, the Chairman of Inspiration FM Chapel, welcomed the guests and reaffirmed the challenges faced by parents of children with special needs, emphasizing that they go above and beyond to provide for their children.

According to Dem, she learned from her contacts with the parents of these kids that the majority of them are exceptionally talented and competent in many artistic mediums, including painting and drawing.

As a result, she asked for the help these kids needed, including their parents, to fulfill their divinely mandated mission.

Many parents of these kinds of children are alone, as you will discover if you take a close look. The more we help them, the more they will accomplish. According to her, children with autism or down syndrome are exceptionally talented and require a great deal of assistance.

Inimfon Okorie praised IFM chapel for the collaboration and for continuously selecting LDSN for their Valentine’s Day celebrations, while also accepting some food products, toiletries, and educational materials on behalf of the center.

In addition to implementing government-approved curricula, he alluded to the center’s involvement in skill-building initiatives.
