Bandits Demand ₦540 Million Ransom for Katsina Hospital Abductees

A ₦540 million ransom has been requested by bandits for the victims who were kidnapped during an attack on a general hospital in Katsina State’s Kankara Local Government Area.
A medical professional, Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire, and another person were shot to death in the Tuesday incident, it was recalled.
Several employees were taken hostage during the attack, and Dr. Dandashire was shot.

One of the abductees is Yusuf Muhammad Mairuwa, the hospital’s head of the nursing department and assistant director of nursing services.
Sources told the Daily Post that the bandits are requesting 270 million naira to free Mairuwa and another 270 million naira to free the other hospital employees and workers from a neighboring fertilizer factory who were also taken hostage during the event.

The attack was denounced by Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, who also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting healthcare personnel.

Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, his chief press secretary, released a statement in which Governor Radda noted that while there has been progress in less such attacks, the objective is still not complete.

“We are rethinking our security strategy to make sure that our medical personnel can carry out their essential responsibilities without fear.

“Our top priority continues to be the safety of our residents and healthcare professionals,” the governor promised.
