Rivers Crisis: Senate Convenes Behind Closed Doors on State of Emergenc

The Nigerian Senate has entered a closed-door meeting to address the contentious issues surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State.

Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Majority Leader, made a motion for the members to enter a closed session while speaking on the Red Chamber floor on Thursday, March 20.
“Mr. President and esteemed colleagues, let me state that, in accordance with our rules’ order 135,” I propose that the Senate now enter a closed session as a preamble to the motion I have in the Order Paper,” Bamidele stated. I’m grateful, Sir.

After hearing Bamidele’s motion, Senate President Godswill Akpabio asked the minority leader to make his final remarks.
The Minority Leader responded by stating that he was in favor of the resolution calling for a closed session of the Senate to discuss the Order Paper.

Speaking further, Akpabio requested that the proposal to enter a closed session of the Senate be put to a voice vote. This was endorsed by Senate members.
